Today we’re covering Carl Von Clausewitz again, On War. We will start with Book 5: “Military Forces,” go through the algorithm of subject matter titles, and articulate a new idea, a new concept in regards to the principles and precepts of Clausewitz, his strategy and tactics and the moral principles that create them.
“General Scheme.”
U.S. Army term association:
We are discussing “general,” in the general sense, standard ops, daily constants regarding war, the scheme of war. “Scheme,” not negative in the negative sense of the word, but the scheme, the chessboard, the strategy and tactics that would manipulate or exploit the pieces on the chessboard, the general scheme, the scheme of general schemes, from Generals and leaders who are the props of the nation (Sun Tzu), upon whom the nation rests its hopes, and when Generals or leaders operate at an optimum level, they recognize their responsibility to the people, and that their hopes can only go so far as the people allow.
The general scheme. Back to the basic precept on which the general scheme has its premise and is optimized by implementation. The general scheme. The general scheme is understanding that victory is the goal, victory is the objective, and victory is always imminent. Any transitory setback is but a chance to turn the tide of war concerning the physical battle and the psychological mindset of your army. This is the general scheme. Understanding what the intentions of your enemy are, what their goals are, and understanding that cyclical and intermittent initiatives that have both strategic and tactical benefits create scenarios and trends that are tantamount to victory. Additionally, these initiatives create sustainable strengths concerning victory. This is the general scheme. How do we win? Why have we not won? Is this an anomaly concerning a transitory setback, and how do we adjust to it? How do we remove trends that will work against our army? These are critical factors that determine the distinction of the combat and definitively controls the premise and sustainability of the general scheme.
